ADHD Treatment | Natural ADHD Remedies to Cure ADHD

Archive for October 2009

Consider the fact that never before in the history of the world have we ever seen the mass drugging of children. Billions of pharmaceutical dollars are invested in prescribing psychotropic drugs to control the brains and inevitably the minds of this rising generation. This is crazy. Instead, we need to look at the effectiveness and safety of an alternative ADHD treatment…one that uses natural home remedies.

The pharmaceutical numbers are shocking.

According to a comparison based on a new U.K. study, US children are prescribed anti-psychotic drugs at about six times the rate of children in the United Kingdom.

Does it mean U.S. kids are being over-treated…or that U.K. children are being under-treated?
Experts say that’s beside the point, because prescribed drug use for children is rising in both countries. And with absolutely ZERO long-term safety data, it’s obvious the drugs are being over-prescribed for both U.S. and U.K. children.

The truth is most medicines being prescribed haven’t even been officially approved for kids. The most commonly prescribed drugs are for behavior and conduct disorders, including ADHD treatment and an increasing percentage being prescribed for autism.

Side effects including weight gain, nervous-system problems and heart trouble and even cases of death have been reported in children using these dangerous drugs.

In fact they are just beginning to recommend heart testing be done on kids now that they have noticed more fatalities.

It seems they will stop at nothing to justify selling drugs to children. They used to sell Thioridazine to treat hyperactivity, until they found out it was damaging young hearts. In the U.K they prescribe a drug used for schizophrenia (Risperdal) to treat irritability . . .

How many children really need drugs . . . especially knowing there are natural health remedies used for ADHD treatment that are proven and safe?

Many pediatricians are standing up against the insanity and challenging the claim that ADHD is really a “disease” at all. So to defend themselves, researchers for Big Pharma are claiming brain scans of children diagnosed with ADHD are “smaller” and less developed.

This is outrageous!!!

Skull and brain size is NOT a marker for intelligence.

Bottom line . . . there are NO specific cognitive, metabolic or neurological markers for ADHD. And, there is NO medical test to diagnose it.

If you’re not upset by what Big Pharma policies are doing to our children, you are simply not paying attention. The best way to fight back is to claim responsibility for the health of your child and encourage others to do the same. Evidence-based science is easy to find and more and more natural ADHD remedies are being discovered everyday.

Please don’t stop looking until you find your own natural ADHD remedies. Thank you for reading my letter today, I just had to share it with you to let you know that there are alternatives to drugs. Take the time to discover an alternative ADHD treatment for your child.

Live well,

ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) Facts:

  • ADHD is the most common psychiatric diagnosis made in children and affects from 3-7% of children
  • ADHD is diagnosed 3 times as often in boys than in girls, creating debate over whether ADHD is merely a reflection of personality traits or temperament more commonly found in boys, rather than an actual illness.
  • ADHD is thought to affect approximately 2-4% of adults with 67% of the children diagnosed with ADHD continuing to have the disorder as adults.
  • Side-effects of drugs used for ADHD treatment include cardiac arrhythmias and psychosis.
  •

Regardless of how many people are actually diagnosed with ADHD symptoms, the more important point is that people are looking for answers to help them cope with this disorder. Many times, these answers are found with an alternative ADHD treatment.

In my book, “ADHD/ADD Natural Remedy Report”, I take an in-depth look at many types of natural remedies and alternative ADHD treatment, providing the information needed to make the right choices for you and your family. As a guideline, your health care practitioner should be involved in any decision you make regarding alternative ADHD treatment options.

It is quite normal for children to have trouble focusing and behaving at one time or another. However, for children with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), this type of behavior is not something they just out-grow. ADHD symptoms continue and can cause difficulty at school, at home, or with friends.

    ADHD symptoms can include:

    • Having a hard time paying attention
    • Excessive daydreaming
    • Difficulty with listening
    • Easily distracted from schoolwork or play
    • Forgetfulness
    • Constant motion or unable to stay seated
    • Squirming or fidgeting
    • Too much talking
    • Inability to play quietly
    • Acting and speaking without thinking
    • Trouble taking turns
    • Frequently interrupting others

While popular ADHD drugs such as Adderall, Ritalin and Straterra can be very effective at temporarily treating ADHD symptoms . . . they do absolutely nothing when it comes to addressing ADD and ADHD’s root cause . . . and have no long term beneficial effect.

    ADHD treatment

The brain of a person with ADD or ADHD is different from a person who is considered normal. Research shows that areas of the brain are underdeveloped in children diagnosed with ADD and ADHD. Additionally, it was found that if brainwaves were measured, it would show that these areas of the brain were asleep. These differences in brain activity are not a definitive test, but they have been shown to be very common among ADD and ADHD patients.

The proper levels of neurotransmitters in the brain are lacking in those diagnosed with ADD and ADHD. Neurotransmitters carry electrical impulses (which are messages to the brain) along a neuro-pathway. They are brain chemicals that serve to tell the central communication system (the brain) what to do.  Natural ADHD remedies can help with this “communication” process.

If any of these electrical impulses or pathways is blocked, they don’t reach the brain. In ADD and ADHD neurotransmission, the message never reaches the brain to tell the rest of the body or mind how to function. In the case of ADD / ADHD, these blockages often occur in areas that help us maintain our emotional state. As a result, irritability, explosive or uncontrollable behavior, an inability to focus, a short attention span and irrationality are just some of the emotional issues that can occur.

With this in mind, the science behind using natural ADHD remedies is to make up for these shortages using alternative treatments. You can easily see that, with this theory, you don’t want to use prescription medication because most times their ingredients do not naturally occur in the body!

There are five neuro-chemicals that are lacking in people diagnosed with ADD/ADHD. It’s important to note that neuro-transmitter deficiency is the main reason for inattention and lack of focus in ADD / ADHD patients.

Neuro-chemical – Effects on the Body or Mind

Dopamine – Causes feelings of being invincible. High levels of this chemical cause difficulty in focusing. Other issues that might happen include feelings of indifference towards love (i.e. – friends, family, pets, romantic love, etc.)

Serotonin – The level of this chemical decreases when norephinephrine is released. As a result, feelings of sleepiness and well-being are aroused.

Norephinephrine – Causes feelings of an adrenaline “rush”. Patients’ hearts beat faster. Their bodies experience more oxygenation. Through the release of norephinephrine, people experience “super-human” strength in times of crisis.

Opioids - Cause feelings of urgency. High levels of this brain chemical cause extreme happiness and a lack of feeling pain.

Gama amino butyric acid (GABA) – When opioids are reduced due to stress or deficiency, GABA levels also decrease. This causes feelings of anxiety.

    ADHD causes

It’s a question that is literally asked every day . . . and that most pill-happy doctors unfortunately just don’t know the answer to.  Consider looking at natural ADHD remedies to find the real answer.

If you look in general medical literature, it will tell you that ADD and ADHD are caused by a lack of neurotransmitters firing in your child’s brain.

And while it’s true that children (and adults) who suffer from ADD / ADHD do show ‘differences’ in the way their neurotransmitters function, that’s really more related to ADHD symptoms, rather than the actual cause.

In reality, ADD and ADHD causes include a number of factors such as:

Genetics – If you have ADD / ADHD or exhibit ADD / ADHD symptoms (since it’s only been in the last 20 years that it’s been “in-vogue” to diagnose and medicate ADD/ADHD) then your children are more likely to have ADD / ADHD as well.

Nutrition - Have you seen what most kids eat today?

Family Life - How much personal attention a child gets and how much time they spend passively entertained by a TV.

Allergies - Allergies can play havoc with your child’s brain chemistry and ability to pay attention.

So how do you figure out what’s causing your child’s ADD / ADHD?

Unfortunately, figuring out the real root cause of your child’s ADD / ADHD can be pretty tough.

There’s no magic machine out there that can tell us exactly what’s causing your child’s ADD / ADHD and just what to do to ‘fix’ it.

But here are some tips to help you become an “ADD / ADHD” detective and figure out what’s keeping your beautiful boy or girl from focusing on what’s in front of them and excelling in school.

    1. Make a list of relatives who show ADD / ADHD symptoms. Uncles, cousins, parents and grandparents are all game. If you show a large number of relatives who seem to have ADD /ADHD (even if they’ve never been diagnosed) you’re probably looking at a genetic component.

    2. Keep a journal of what your child eats on a daily basis. Just take a piece of paper and write down what your child eats, what time they eat it and how much they have. If you see a lot of processed foods and junk foods on that list, you might have the culprit for the ADHD symptoms right there.

    3. Make a journal of your child’s physical and mental activity. How much time a day are they spending running, jumping, skipping or getting other exercise? How much time are they spending camped out on the couch or just playing video games?

Once you follow these three steps you should have a pretty good view of your child’s life . . .and of the factors that could be contributing to their ADD / ADHD symptoms.

Later I’ll dive into the nutrition equation and talk about simple changes you can make to your child’s diet to lessen the symptoms of ADD / ADHD.
